CASE STUDY:

DECT Power Supply Unit

The DECT Power Supply

Project Description

One of our customers came to us with a problem regarding the power supply unit used for their DECT system being deployed in rural areas. Their DECT base unit was mounted on a pole outside users' houses and was powered with an external power supply unit that was responsible for powering the base station as well as charging the built-in battery backup.

It was found that in these rural areas the users would frequently use the DECT power supply to power other appliances as well as for charging 12V car batteries. This resulted in frequent failures of the power supplies. This caused the DECT base stations to fail subsequently resulting in costly callouts, field support and repairs.

Re-design with Improved Functionality

Keystone Electronic Solutions re-designed the Power Supply Unit to conform to the customer's power requirements for the DECT base station. In the process Keystone Electronic Solutions also incorporated temperature and over current protection to the device and also achieved a better transfer of power than the existing Power Supply Unit.

Cost Effective, Abuse-resistant

The results of the project provided our customer with a cost effective alternative that was much more resistant to abuse, thus resulting in a lower cost of ownership.
