CASE STUDY:
V.11 to E3 Multiplexer
V.11 to E3 Multiplexer
Project Description
Keystone Electronic Solutions was contracted to do the FPGA design for a multiple V.11 interface to an E3 multiplexer. This posed a major design challenge as high data rates had to be achieved on the E3 end whilst still being compatible to the low bit rate V.11 interfaces.
Design consultation
Keystone designed several FPGAs for this project and provided design consultation in order for our customer to successfully complete this project. The multiplexer has been successfully deployed in scenarios where end users needed to interface several V.11 modems to expensive routers, resulting in excessive cost per port. The multiplexer substantially reduced the effective cost per port because a few high bit rate ports could now be used instead of the many V.11 ports.
Add-ons for the Multiplexer
Since the delivery of the multiplexer, Keystone Electronic Solutions has developed several add-ons for the multiplexer, amongst others a V.11 test card to enable the remote testing of the V.11 interface as per the V.54 specification. We also developed an asynchronous RS232 to synchronous V.11 converter to enable normal PCs to directly connect to the multiplexer for network access.
